There are experiences that you have in your life that become part of your belief system. Sometimes these beliefs cause limits to be placed in your life and you go through life feeling as if something is missing but not understanding why. These experiences can be simple instruction from a parent or a teacher. They can also be caused by an experience that was painful.
When I was a child I spent a lot of time at my grandparents’ home. They loved to entertain. When they had company, they would take them into the formal living room and there, they would talk, play cards, and have a grand time. Of course, you can image that as a child, I wanted to be in the middle of it all. Unfortunately, this was not the place for a child, at least according to my grandparents. They did not mind if I played at their feet but they did not want us to interfere and they taught us that children were to be seen, not heard. I grew up with this instruction and it became part of my belief system. As a young adult, I often wondered why I had reservations about talking to older people.
The learning experience that my grandparents taught me was formed into a roadblock in my life that prevented me from speaking openly to people who were older than me and when I did speak to them it was with reservation. It was not until years later that I learned that this limiting belief was preventing me from being all that I could be. Once this roadblock was identified, I went to work to remove it. This was only an instruction from my grandparents that was to teach a child respect not to prevent them from communicating with their elders. Once I realized this I immediately felt different about how to talk to my elders and have been able to develop some beautiful relationships with people older than me. I see things differently and am able to utilize this a strength now to be able to communicate more freely and openly. This is important in my life because I coach and speak to groups of all ages.
You see, the smallest things that have happened in your past can become limitations that keep you from achieving your potential and reaching your destination in life…you true purpose.
Take a look at the areas in your life that you feel like you could do better and do not understand why you cannot get there. Think back to a point in your life where you experienced something that may have been dramatic or hurtful, something that you were instructed to do or learned to do that created a desired response then, that is not desirable today. Once it has been identified you can begin to remove it. Then you can begin to Live to Win.
