This past year I have traveled a lot and have been fortunate enough to be able to talk with old friends and make some new ones. When asked what I do now that I have sold my business, the topic of conversation quickly turns to how great it must be to be able to do what I really want to do in my life. I always answer the same way, “You too can be, do or have what you really want in life.” Sometimes I get odd looks, others ask questions, while the remainder of them do not believe that it is possible for them.
I started out just like a lot of other people, in an average household with a brother and two sisters being raised by parents who loved us and did all they could to help us grow up to be the best we could be.
I came on hard times in my young adult life because I got myself mixed up with the wrong crowd. I ended up sleeping on a concrete floor in the back of a repair shop, bathing in a sink and not knowing where the next meal would come from. For a long time, I was too full of pride to admit that I had made a mess of things. I began working and concentrating on doing something productive with my life, although I had no idea what that would be. Years later, I began my own business, scared to death that I would end up on another concrete floor somewhere. That fear motivated me to make sure that did not happen again. A few years later I sold that business and realized my dreams. Now, I am helping others to see that there is a way to achieve your dreams. I am no different from you and if I can do it so can you.
You may not know what you want in life but you have desires to be, do or have something that you don’t currently have. You can have it if you will follow a few simple guidelines and take a few hours to get it out of your head and onto paper. It is a proven fact that any thought committed to paper has a hundred percent better chance of becoming reality as the thought that remains a thought.
Now ask yourself why you want to be, do or have this in your life. This is the key to success or failure. A weak, half-hearted answer here will doom the dream from ever becoming reality. On the other hand, a compelling reason that makes fire burn inside you, will propel you to success.
Next, make a list of the people who will help you get there, the things that you will need in order to get there and the objections that you will face trying to get there.
After this is accomplished then start writing down the steps that will need to be taken to get started.
That does not sound so difficult, does it?
All that is left to do now is put a date on it to give yourself a little urgency and then Get Started!
