The Small Stuff

Each day we spend approximately twelve hours performing tasks to get us to the next day. The vast majority will perform the same tasks each day, not thinking about what the outcome will be past the present day.

Everything that you do has an effect on something else, at some other time in the future. It could present itself today but it may not happen until much later. At any rate, you perform the task now because it needs to be done without thinking of the long term effects.

What if you knew that the task you were performing would have a negative effect on you or someone else that you cared about. Would you still do it? Of course not. If you knew that a particular task would deliver positive results, would you do it? Before you answer, suppose that you knew it would have a positive effect but the task was not something that you liked to do or it was difficult to do but you knew that if you did it there would be a desired outcome. Could you do it, at least long enough to produce the desired outcome?

If you want to lose weight, you must do certain things that promote weight loss. This could be changing your eating habits and/or exercise. It will not be easy, especially, if your favorite food is pizza or your favorite drink one of those fancy blended coffees with cream, whipped cream and lots of sugar. However, if you knew that the outcome would provide you with the results that you want and would prevent you from having a heart attack or getting diabetes, you might be motivated to do it. At least some of you would be motivated to do it.

We all have different trigger points that will engage our desire to be, do or have something. That point will drive us to action. The error occurs when we do not take the time to consider the outcome of what it is that we have decided we want.

Anything that you do, if you do it consistently, will produce results, desired or undesired. All success in your life will be produced by strategically performing tasks that produce a desired result. You can change anything in your life that you want to change, one small step at a time, if you will take time to first think about the outcome that you desire and then plan the steps that you need to take in order to achieve the desired result. There is a certain process in order to plan these steps but once you take the time to plan it, the crucial and last step is to start by taking the first step.

None of us were born with the ability to run. Each of us had to learn to first sit up, then crawl, stand and walk and at last run. Taking these small consistent steps will produce the desired result. This process can be duplicated in any area of your life to produce the results that you want.

Zig Ziglar said, "What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving them."
